The law created the National Privacy Commission (NPC) to administer and implement its provisions and to monitor and ensure compliance with international standards for data protection.

Key Provisions of the Data Privacy Act

Scope and Application

The Data Privacy Act applies to all forms of processing of personal information, whether manual or automated, by Philippine residents and citizens, Philippine entities, or entities that have links to the Philippines.

Data Subject Rights

The Act grants individuals (data subjects) several rights concerning their personal information, including the right to be informed, to access, to correct, to object, to erasure or blocking, to damages, and to data portability.

Personal Information Controllers and Processors

The Act places responsibilities on entities that collect and process personal information, requiring them to implement measures ensuring compliance with the principles of transparency, legitimate purpose, and proportionality.

Security Measures

Organizations must implement reasonable and appropriate security measures to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

How We Comply with the Data Privacy Act

At Barangay Health Center, we have implemented the following measures to ensure compliance with the Data Privacy Act:

1. Appointment of Data Protection Officer

We have appointed a Data Protection Officer (DPO) responsible for ensuring our compliance with the Data Privacy Act and handling privacy-related inquiries and concerns.

2. Privacy by Design

We incorporate privacy principles into the design and operation of our systems, business practices, and physical infrastructure.

3. Privacy Impact Assessments

We conduct assessments to identify and mitigate privacy risks associated with new projects, systems, or processes.
